About a year ago My contemporary photo class took a two-day trip to Pittsburgh, PA. During this trip we saw handfuls of street art plastered along buildings all the history and color was amazing. During our second day in Pittsburgh we visited the Mattress Factory. No, The factory didn't have the process of how to make mattresses but it was an installation museum. Inside and out of this building was huge piece of art work that was just magnificent to look at and to experience, One of the artist that took my breath away was the installation of Yayoi Kusama, Kusama is a Japanese artist famous for her polka dot and spot arts. when we went inside the room it was covered in red spots and it also had mirrors everywhere. It was almost like an optical illusion, I felt like I was in a fun house and was so excited on what else i was going to invision in her work. In the article It explains her fascination with optical illusions and color, which I totally agree with. Her art is like stepping in a kaleidoscope. I agree with the points she portrays in her work, seeing in the self continues of yourself and the illusions of realities.

So for my final project I had to put together a video that combined two words and the two that I chose was Disarrange and of Time. The video shows how an individual can go through finals week always having time and anxiety follow them around like a horror movie around this time of the semester. We filmed the movie in Rockefeller Arts Center and in Our apartment. My roommate is the main character and for the dark figure was a total of three actors portraying as one. What I really liked about this project was the fact that i could turn this into a horror movie which are my favorite types of movies! How something like a final can make you go insane like my actress showed made it more relatable in my eyes. making this video really showed me how I love touching in my degree of art, theatre and psychology cause it made me realize why I chose to be this profession.

The meaning behind this gif is that I really love owl and at some points I can call myself a "night owl" or someone who stays up all night and sleeps all day. I can really stay up during the day and I 100% do not consider my self a morning person, in fact I am someone who you do not want to see in the morning in general. Yeah that scary. I used almost a story book kind of feeling and paint style to the gif because i felt like it fits more to it and to the fact that i really love reading books at night with illustrations with a similar feel to it. The lights that appear and disappear in the gif are like ideas of light of what i can do in the night time like read a book, watch a movie or even illustrate some drawings. It also reminds me of lighting bugs in the night sky and how to me when I was a child lighting bugs made me feel like I was in another world and that i was one with nature. The feeling felt surreal and the only animal I could visually see and hear was an owl.
After going through a couple of Ted Talks videos i came across a video that stopped me in my tracks. The video was talking about the artist Miwa Matreyek. Miwa's work is a mixture of shadow art which uses an actual persons shadow behind a screen and animation. I do not know how but she was able to combined these two mediums and make an incredible art form. The animation and shadow art as a whole is so well in synced and perfectly timed that you wouldn't have thought for it too be two separate pieces. The reason why i became so captivated by her art work is because the timing, placement, color, movements and animation are so well orchestrated that you would thing someone drew this and not that its actually separate forms of art brought together. my favorites parts is when she becomes the island and the animated figures start walking around her back and you see the roots of the trees move all around her. What really impressed me was that her artworks explained a story, through a choreograph of movements and with the illusion of animations and real life motion its like your experiencing fantasy in real life. And that is something that I love seeing in animations and videos all together. Matreyek is an amazing artist and her work is breathtaking!
The one place on campus that I can say is my special lay low and do work space is my apartment. Yeah there are many cool places on this campus where you can actually study and get work down but I feel more comfortable in my apartment. Not just my room but the apartment as a whole! You get an amazing view of the sunrise and over the field to where you can look at the school. And since its on the third floor just makes the view even more pleasant. I took various sounds of my apartment from the fishes water tank to the sound of the vent from the bathroom and just meshed it up together to make a peaceful almost meditating kind of music to it just to give a vibe of how i feel when I return home after a long day! I feel like this short bit will help others understand the kind of stable feeling I get when returning home and how the sound can mean that wherever your "spot" on campus where you feel less distracted and calm that you can still feel tranquility. I didn't really have that much trouble making the video itself because i kind of had this sort of sound in my mind already. Im satisfied with the outcome mostly because of the picture that i chose with the double rainbow over my apartment building just gives it a better completion of the overall feeling.

In my last post I posted some pictures of my small adventure to class every morning, and one of the photos was the side of the Rockerfeller Center, a building where all the visual and performing arts classes are held. Now the building has alot of space on it and one space in particular i have chosen to put a mock mural on it. The mural as you can see is a picture of a young women who is underwater sleeping on her books. It represents how students are drowning in school work, and the reason i chose to add it on this particular building is because i personally know how students stay long nights and early mornings in this building. I have done this before, being both a visual and performing arts major I personally know many long nights I have spent in there and I feel that with this picture is really relates with the students who have classes in that building but also with any student in the school itself. No matter what major you have I feel that this picture just shows meaning of how every student feels like in college.
I believe and I know a lot of people will agree with me when I say waking up and going to class is an adventure in itself, well at least for me it is. It's very hard waking up in the morning and I'm pretty sure I have at least four snooze alarms before I actually get up to start my day or even go to class. The one thing I know for sure that makes my going to class an adventure is the fact that I never know what I"m going to experience for that morning. Either it's meeting cute puppy's to random school tours or even swing an event that I completely forgot about start. The walk from my apartment to the school shuttle bus takes less then five minutes to actually get there but it always puts a pep in your step to make sure you catch the bus on time cause if you miss it that adds another 10-12 minutes more to your day and if your lucky to even catch the bus best wishes on finding a seat or being delayed with all the stops the bus driver just happens to make.... see... adventure.. ( never said it was going to be a fun one) I feel the only great thing is seeing the scenery from the clock tower to the wood trails it's an amazing view. Two of these places are even great ideas for murals if I was to ever create one. A mural that shows how much work we are drowning in but shows you so much opportunities that you can achieve or conceive.
when I had my mini adventure with my roommates down to Ithaca last weekend, I wanted to take some pictures of the waterfalls. I been to Ithaca about four times and I've come to find out that they have alot of history with there many waterfalls. Not only that but the scenery is also really beautiful, Know in no means do I consider myself a photographer just because i take a few pictures of some scenery or people, but taking some photos of my friends and the world around is very fun! With the first ten pictures which i posted in my gallery is just that random photos of the falls, the different types of rocks that they had and of course how beautiful it was. Some of the pics were of my roommates when we visited the creek before our trip down to Ithaca. The picture doesn't have a special meaning but more of a random aesthetic of well just that..randomness. I literally just looked around and said eh..why not. The second time around I took ten different pictures with my other roommate, This time around we were not outdoors but stayed in our apartment and we tried different types of photography styles to take these pictures but once again we did not try to do the common photography standpoint where everything had to be just right. Myself being an artist know the hardship of having everything to be just perfect or to have a meaning but I wanted these photos to still be at random and I wanted to have fun taking them. We had alot of laughs because of the facial expression my friend madison was doing. My favorite photo was of the bunny marbles who i call doofy cause well..he's doofy and the one where she is reading the art magazines on the couch. But overall I had fun taking all these photos but maybe in the future I can add my own dark twist to them. I cant really say I have an art style but I can say that i have a theme that I favor. I'm really interested in dark and unsettling themes in my art work, dark themes are really captivating to me not on psychologically but visual wise as well. During my First year and a half at my community college I've taken an interest in psychology especial abnormal psychology that focused on mental illness and basic fears that humans have. I didn't want to be a psychologist but I wanted to blend the two concepts together in my art style.
My favorite movies are American Psycho, Wes Craven's They, Stephen king's IT etc.... My favorite poems and short story are The Raven and the Oval Portrait from Edger Allen Poe. I love the art style and animation of Hayao Miyazaki and the paintings of Margaret keane. I also follow many artist online whose art style that I really take interest in. Besides creating traditional and digital art I really enjoy acting, I feel that with acting is another way of bringing an idea of an art form that I can create come to life besides animation and story boards. Acting is another way whee you can use psychology to get in the minds of different people and make them feel what you want your audience to feel or how you want your character to feel. Also having the theatre minor has helped me become an artist personallyand coming here to fredonia three years ago has helped me build a degree that fits my personal interest. |
